Featured Work
The Wawa Foundation Hero Award
I recently produced the video that helped Philadelphia City Rowing win The Wawa Foundation Hero Award.

The Wawa Foundation Hero Award is an annual recognition from Wawa's charitable foundation for Philadelphia nonprofits making an impact in their communities. The 2026 award set two records: 553 total nonprofit applicants and 9,450 votes. PCR was named the winner of The Wawa Foundation Hero Award and a $50,000 grant on July 2, 2026.
Video: I produced PCR's application video from concept through final edit, which helped us become one of the finalists. The majority of the footage was captured on my Canon R7, with additional cell phone and GoPro footage provided by coaches and PCR student-athletes.
Campaign: I built and ran our voting campaign across our social media channels and email, building a daily social content calendar, an email series, Instagram DM outreach to members of the rowing community and schools across the region, partner collaboration posts, a social media kit for supporters, and printed QR materials in local stores.
Philadelphia City Rowing (PCR)
I currently run all marketing, communications, and social media for Philadelphia City Rowing.
-
Philadelphia City Rowing (PCR) is a sports-based youth development organization serving over 400 Philadelphia public school students each year. Since 2019, I have been the Marketing and Social Media Manager and the primary staff member dedicated to marketing and communications. Below I describe some of my day-to-day work.
Video: I regularly produce both long-form and short-form video content for PCR’s social media and fundraising outreach. I planned, scripted, filmed, and edited three donor-facing videos (1.5 to 2.5 minutes each) for our 2025 year-end campaign, plus an explainer on Pennsylvania's Educational Improvement Tax Credit program, which lets businesses direct a portion of their state taxes to educational nonprofits like PCR.
Social Media: I manage PCR's social media presence across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Vimeo. This includes strategy, calendars, and content covering recruitment, fundraising, sponsor fulfillment, and community engagement.
Digital and Print Design: I design our infographics, sponsorship decks, informational flyers, campaign mailers, and other digital and print materials.
Web Design: I built and maintain philadelphiacityrowing.org on WordPress, handling the site's architecture, UX, and all content. The site includes a comprehensive donation page designed for multiple giving methods, an EITC landing page, campaign landing pages, and more.
Writing: I’ve produced the written content for our newsletters, event communications, and social media copy since 2019. In collaboration with our development staff, I also produce the written content for our fundraising campaigns.
Photography: I regularly photograph race days, practices, and PCR events. I set up and operate a SmugMug to share these photos with participants and supporters: philadelphiacityrowing.smugmug.com.
The Philadelphia Indoor Classic
I led the sponsorship, communications, and production of the Philadelphia Indoor Classic in 2025 and 2026.
-
The Philadelphia Indoor Classic is PCR's annual indoor rowing race and fundraiser, where teams and individuals side by side on rowing machines. In both year 1 and year 2, I was in charge of the sponsorship, communications, and production side of the event, while our coaching staff managed race operations on the competition side. In its second year, the event grew to 9 cash sponsors, 31 in-kind partners, and $25,325 in net revenue for PCR.
Sponsorships: I built the sponsorship deck, conducted sponsor outreach, coordinated prize pickup, tracked sponsor fulfillment, and built the post-event sponsor impact report.
Promotion: I produced the 2026 promo video using video I filmed during the 2025 event, designed flyers for local rowing clubs and gyms, and ran paid targeted ads on social media.
Communications: I was in charge of participant outreach and all event messaging across email and social media.
Event Brand and Design: I designed the event logo, event shirts, event bags, signage, printed program, and event webpage.
Guest Experience: I was in charge of the guest experience and entertainment, which included booking a musical performance from Philly Elmo, a mascot appearance from Buster of the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, and coordinating both food vendors and in-kind food donations.
The Media Relay Cup: The Media Relay Cup, new in 2026, was a media-focused race within the event featuring local news personalities, in which I coordinated participant outreach, planning, and the run of show. The relay included NBC10, Telemundo 62, NBC Sports Philadelphia, and KYW Newsradio.
Impact Report: I produced an impact report to distribute to sponsors and partners, which can be viewed here in PDF format or in the Content Samples section below.

About Me
Hi, I'm Maddy!
I studied sports marketing at Saint Joseph's University, where I was a collegiate rower and assistant sports editor for The Hawk student newspaper. I later earned an MPA in nonprofit management from the University of Central Oklahoma, where I was a graduate assistant coach and ran social media for the rowing team that won the 2021 NCAA Division II national championship. I raced competitively after college, including a win in the club single at the 2017 Head of the Charles.
At PCR, my work is focused on communication that shows our impact extends beyond rowing itself. For many students, the biggest differences come from being part of a team, having access to academic services and work opportunities, and spending time outdoors.
Outside of PCR, I take on freelance web, video, photo, design, and social media projects.
